Redefining Success: Why Doing Less Helped Me Build More

‍ ‍

Many of us enter private practice believing that success is measured by growth: more clients, more referrals, more income, and more opportunities. While those things can absolutely be part of success, they aren’t the whole picture.

‍ ‍

In this episode, I share why I intentionally reduced my clinical availability while completing my psychology internship and what that decision taught me about leadership, alignment, and long-term sustainability.

What You’ll Learn

‍ ‍

  • Why every season of life requires different priorities

  • The difference between growth and overcommitment

  • How comparison quietly shapes our definition of success

  • Why protecting your capacity is a leadership skill

  • The Alignment Filter™ and how to use it in your own decision-making

‍ ‍

The Alignment Filter™

‍ ‍

Before saying yes to your next opportunity, ask:

‍ ‍

  1. Does this support the season I’m in?

  2. Does this move me toward the life I’m building?

  3. What am I saying no to if I say yes?

  4. Am I choosing from intention or fear?

  5. Will Future Me thank me for this decision?

‍ ‍

Reflection Questions

‍ ‍

  • What season am I currently in?

  • Am I measuring success by my own values or someone else’s expectations?

  • What commitment no longer aligns with the life I’m trying to build?

  • Where do I need to create more margin?

‍ ‍

Key Takeaway

‍ ‍

Success is not a fixed destination. It’s a moving target that should evolve as your life evolves. Leadership isn’t just about knowing when to accelerate—it’s also about recognizing when it’s time to create space for what matters most.
